Benson Kicks Off “Costs Down, Wages Up” Statewide Tour in Detroit Alongside Michiganders
Events included “Women for Benson” Coalition Launch, Small Business Visits and Meet and Greet
Today, Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson kicked off her “Costs Down, Wages Up” statewide tour with events across the Detroit metro area. Benson is campaigning to lower costs, raise wages and build a Michigan where everyone can thrive.
The tour is taking Benson across Michigan, from the Detroit metro area to Cheboygan, to hear how rising costs are impacting people’s lives, and to share her affordability agenda that will put more money in Michiganders’ pockets. At every stop, she’s drawing a clear contrast: the choice between a governor who fights to lower costs, or Republicans who have put politics over Michigan families.
Benson started the day launching a new campaign coalition. “Women for Benson” is focused on elevating the voices of Michigan women and the issues that matter most to them.
“I’m running for governor to make Michigan the best place in the entire country to live, raise a family, and retire with dignity. Right now, too many women don’t have access to quality, affordable healthcare. Too many can’t afford to put a roof over their heads. And too many can’t pay their bills — all while we have federal leaders kicking people off their healthcare and working to take away access to safe, critical reproductive care even when women's lives are on the line,” said Secretary Benson during the Women for Benson Launch. That’s why it’s so important to launch our Women for Benson coalition today — to make Michigan the best place to live, work, and raise a family.”

In Detroit, Benson visited a Hispanic-owned small business called Vámonos and discussed what small business owners need to grow in Michigan.

Next, Benson visited Alternatives for Girls alongside Detroit Councilwoman Gabriela Santiago-Romero and State Senator Stephanie Chang. Alternatives for Girls helps girls and young women experiencing homelessness by offering support, resources, and opportunities.

In Dearborn, Benson stopped at a local coffee shop with Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud.

For the last stop of the day, Jocelyn rallied Michiganders in Monroe and shared her vision for a more affordable Michigan.
