PRESS RELEASE

Benson Speaks with the Small Business Association of Michigan and Michigan Black Business Alliance

Today, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson spoke at the Small Business Association of Michigan’s (SBAM) and the Michigan Black Business Alliance’s (MBBA) Road to 2026 Candidate Series about her plans to make Michigan the best place to start and grow a small business, and turn the state into the economic engine of the Midwest and Great Lakes region.

While Michigan families are suffering under rising costs, Benson is the only candidate in the race with real plans to lower costs, support small businesses, and create jobs across the state. She knows we need to build an economy that invests in people — not billionaires — and work with both sides of the aisle to deliver for residents, just as she has done throughout her time in public service.

“I heard from a business owner who’s in 12 different states, and he said, ‘when I come to Michigan, the people I hire are the most honest, hard working people I know.’ That is our greatest asset. And so my economic vision for the state is not just creating more jobs, but investing in people and then places to house them and enable people to thrive. It’s about communities, infrastructure, and job creation, because that’s actually how we leverage our greatest assets and build an economy that works for all,”  said Secretary Jocelyn Benson. “So I’ll invest in our people, invest in the communities where people want to live, and call home, and raise a family with excellent public education opportunities and walkable communities, and investments in the natural resources that make Michigan such a special place. And then on top of all that, I’ll make sure that state government makes your life easier in every way.”
