Jocelyn Benson Lays Out Economic Development Vision at Southern Wayne County Chamber Forum
Benson: “It is critical that government not be an obstacle course, but instead be a helping hand”
Today, Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson joined the Southern Wayne County Chamber for a discussion on her plans to make Michigan the best place to live, work, build a business, and raise a family.
While Michiganders are suffering under rising costs, Benson is the only candidate in the race with plans to lower the cost of living, support economic development, and create well-paying jobs across the state.

“I think it’s so important for government to be a vehicle for improving people’s lives,” said Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson. “We’re in a moment when, particularly at the federal level, all the noise and division makes it feel like government’s showing up everywhere we don’t want it, and nowhere we actually need it. As Secretary of State, I’ve tried to ensure we are showing up where we need it, saving people time, saving people money, making lives easier, and then getting out of the way.
“When it comes to improving our climate for business growth, for business development, for businesses to come to Michigan, for businesses to grow and start and scale up here, it is critical that government not be an obstacle course, but instead be a helping hand,” continued Benson. “That is my commitment to all of you, that just as we reformed our Secretary of State office and made it work well, I’m now going to take on all of state government to ensure that it is streamlined, that we save money, that we are cutting wasteful spending, which I’ve seen and done in our office, but that we’re also showing up for communities in every corner of Michigan.”
