Jocelyn Benson Meets with Black Voters in Detroit, Shares Vision of Economic Empowerment

Last night, Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson met with over 30 Black women in Detroit and shared her plans to lower costs, raise wages, and protect the rights and freedoms of all Michiganders.

Since launching her campaign, Benson has held conversations in communities across the state to meet voters where they are and hear what they need from their state leaders to thrive in Michigan.

What Detroiters heard tonight:

“When I think about the unfinished work of the civil rights movement today, it is economic equity, it is economic power, it is economic justice, it is investing in generational wealth in communities that have been far too long kept from access to wealth,” said Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson. “Because I think the eyes of those who came before us are on us now, in this historic moment for our country, where we're seeing chaos and cruelty at the federal level. We have an opportunity to fight back against that at the state level. And to do so in furtherance of those who came before us and acted with the same urgency.”
