Michigan AFL-CIO, Representing 40+ Unions in Michigan, Endorses Jocelyn Benson for Governor

Today, the Michigan American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) Michigan endorsed Jocelyn Benson as the next Governor of Michigan. The state federation of labor represents over 1,000,000 active and retired members of 40+ unions throughout the state.

“Jocelyn Benson has fought for workers as Secretary of State and she’ll continue that fight as Michigan’s next governor,” said Ron Bieber, president of the Michigan AFL-CIO. “Michigan workers need a governor who will lower costs, raise wages, protect safe workplaces, and ensure workers have a voice on the job. Union members across Michigan are excited to support Jocelyn Benson for Governor.”

“The Michigan AFL-CIO represents and amplifies the voices of over a million hard-working Michiganders who power our economy and build our communities,” said Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson. “I’m proud to have them on the team because Michiganders need a governor who will fight to lower their costs, raise their wages, and make sure their families can succeed. I won’t hesitate to take on anyone — no matter how powerful — who gets in the way of that mission. Together, we can build a Michigan where everyone can afford to live and thrive.”

The Michigan AFL-CIO is the latest to join a growing coalition of state and local leaders, nonprofits, and advocacy organizations supporting Benson to be Michigan’s next governor including the United Auto Workers, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 951, the majority of Michigan Teamsters (including locals 1038, 406, 243, 283, and 247), Michigan Laborers District Council, Northern Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters, Michigan Nurses Association, UNITE HERE Local 24, Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, among others.
