Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield Endorses Jocelyn Benson for Governor
Today, Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield endorsed Jocelyn Benson to be the next governor of Michigan. Mayor Sheffield was joined by Jocelyn in Detroit this afternoon to make the announcement.
“I am honored to be here today to officially endorse Jocelyn Benson for governor. I’ve had the opportunity of knowing Jocelyn Benson for my entire time in public office, and every time I call Jocelyn Benson, she has been accessible, she has been honest, she has been a hard worker, and she has always shown her commitment, and her passion, and her love for the city of Detroit,” said Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield. “She lives in Detroit, she’s raising her family in Detroit, and I am very confident that as governor, she will make sure that she fights and advocates for the same priorities that I care for in this great city. As mayor, I fight every day for a city that works for everyone, for affordable housing, for good jobs, for safe neighborhoods in a city our kids want to stay and grow up in. And those fights don’t stop in Detroit, they go straight through Lansing, and we need a governor who is going to be a true partner in that work.”

Mayor Sheffield is the latest addition to a growing coalition of state and local leaders, nonprofits, and advocacy organizations supporting Benson to be Michigan’s next governor. She also has the support of state and national organizations including the Michigan Association of Justice, the Michigan Democratic Party’s Black Caucus, the Detroit Original Eastside Slate, EMILYs List, and End Citizen United, among others.
