NEW: Black Mayors of Michigan Endorses Jocelyn Benson for Governor

Today, the Black Mayors of Michigan, a nonpartisan coalition of Black mayors from across the state dedicated to advancing strong leadership, collaboration, and advocacy across their cities, endorsed Jocelyn Benson in the race for Governor.
“Jocelyn Benson has shown time and again that she will always protect Michiganders and fight to ensure we have the resources we need to thrive,” said City of Benton Harbor Mayor Marcus Muhammad, President of Black Mayors of Michigan. “As a student of the civil rights movement, she knows economic prosperity and equity go hand in hand. We look forward to collaborating with her as governor to continue the work of building a more affordable, equitable, and fair society.”
“I am honored to have the support and endorsement of the Black Mayors of Michigan to be the next governor of Michigan,” said Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson. “At the heart of our people-powered campaign is a vision to build a Michigan that everyone can afford and where anyone can thrive, and I am proud to join with this statewide collective of local executives who lead that fight every day. Their fight for an economy that works for everyone is mine as well, and it means investing in our Black communities, in partnership with the local governments who represent them, and eliminating the disparities that hold us back. I look forward to working with all of our mayors to drive that work and make the promise of prosperity real for every Michigander.”

They join the broad coalition of mayors, city leaders, educators, and labor organizations in recognizing Benson’s track record of delivering for Michiganders and standing up to anyone who threatens our safety, rights, and freedom and leadership make her the best candidate for governor. She also has the support of state and national organizations including the Michigan Association of Justice, Michigan Democratic Party’s Black Caucus, EMILYs List, and End Citizen United, among others.
