Benson Rolls Out Environmental Plan in Grand Rapids, Earns Michigan LCV Endorsement
Today, on Day 6 of her statewide “Costs Down, Wages Up” tour, Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson gained the endorsement of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters (LCV) and unveiled her environmental plan alongside local leaders, elected officials, and Michiganders. Jocelyn is fighting for a future where Michigan’s Great Lakes are protected from pollution and aging infrastructure, clean energy creates good-paying union jobs without raising costs, and communities are safeguarded from environmental harm.
“Those of us who have been working with her and following her career know what an environmental champion she has been,” said Mayor David LaGrand. “I am completely confident that Jocelyn is the person we need to be running our state if we care about the future of our environment.”
“Protecting these waterways is so darn important, and it is hugely consequential who we elect to office at the state level, at the federal level, and at the county, municipal, and township level. We need real leaders tackling these issues each and every day,” said Lisa Wozniak, president and CEO of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “So I stand here, as I said, incredibly proud to announce Michigan LCV’s endorsement of Jocelyn Benson for Governor. I know she will stand up for the environment, just as she stood up for the voters in this state, protecting the sanctity and the security of our democracy over these last almost eight years.”
“I'm proud to be a candidate for governor in this state, with a strong, bold environmental plan that will build a Michigan that is cleaner, that is safer, and more affordable for all, alongside the newest member of Team Benson, the Michigan League of Conservation Voters,” said Benson. “Anyone who tells us that we have to choose between protecting our environment and growing our economy is wrong. That is a false choice. And I believe the future belongs to the states who show that you can do both, and that's our charge right here in Michigan. That's exactly why my plan to protect our environment is focused on building a Michigan where families pay less on their utility bills, building and expanding affordable clean energy options, and holding corporations who pollute our air and water accountable.”

The LCV is the latest to join a growing coalition of state and local leaders, nonprofits, and advocacy organizations supporting Benson to be Michigan’s next governor including the Michigan Association of Justice, the Michigan Democratic Party’s Black Caucus, the Detroit Original Eastside Slate, EMILYs List, and End Citizens United, among others. You can find a full list of endorsements here.
The “Costs Down, Wages Up” tour is taking Benson across Michigan, from the Detroit metro area to Cheboygan, to hear how rising costs are impacting people’s lives, and to share her affordability agenda that will put more money in Michiganders’ pockets. At every stop, she’s drawing a clear contrast: the choice between a governor who fights to lower costs, or Republicans who have put politics over Michigan families.
