PRESS RELEASE

At Gun Violence Prevention Forum, Jocelyn Benson Lays Out Vision to Keep Michiganders Safe and Secure

Benson has been endorsed by Giffords PAC, Everytown for Gun Safety, and Moms Demand Action

Today, Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson shared her plans to tackle the crisis of gun violence at a forum in Detroit. As Secretary of State, Jocelyn worked to ban guns in polling locations so that Michiganders could cast their votes safely without fear of intimidation. As governor, she will support commonsense laws that keep Michigan communities safe.

“We’ve seen what's possible to elect leaders up and down the ticket here in Michigan that will take real solutions to Lansing to ensure we’re passing legislation on gun safety, transforming our public education system, and ensuring health care is accessible and affordable to all,” said Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson. “I'm asking you not to listen to the people trying to make us feel like we can't do anything, but instead lean into the fact that here in Michigan we can show the nation who we are. We stand up to bullies, we fight for each other, we fight for our kids, we keep our communities safe, and we ensure here in Michigan democracy is always strong.”

Benson has been endorsed by leading gun violence prevention groups, including Giffords PAC, Everytown for Gun Safety, and Moms Demand Action. These organizations join a broad coalition of mayors, city leaders, educators, and labor organizations that recognize Benson’s track record of protecting Michiganders and making government work for them.
