Jocelyn Benson for Governor

PRESS RELEASE

DAY 1: Benson-Brinks “Driving Down Costs” Bus Tour Takes Message to Mid-Michigan, West Michigan

Yesterday, the Benson-Brinks ticket launched the “Driving Down Costs” bus tour. Jocelyn began day one with a tour kickoff in East Lansing before traveling across the state to join events with Sen. Sue Shink, Jan Maino, Jim Haadsma, and Sen. Sean McCann.

At each stop, Jocelyn drew a clear contrast: she will be a governor who fights to drive down costs, while John James puts politics and Trump’s failing policies, including the “John James Tax” hikes, over Michiganders.

Jocelyn started the day in East Lansing, where she kicked off the tour alongside her running mate Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks, Rep. Penelope Tsernoglou, Rep. Angela Witwer, Rep. Julie Brixie, and Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

“The heart of our campaign is costs down, wages up, and fighting for the people of Michigan to end corruption,” said Jocelyn Benson at the bus tour launch. “Here’s the thing: as governor, I will work for you, not the highest bidder, not Donald Trump–you and the people of this state. When it comes to education, creating well-paying jobs, protecting labor and union rights, protecting our kids–it all comes down to what we do over these next 12 days. Let’s do everything we can over these next 12 days to get it done and win big.”

From East Lansing, the tour traveled to Ann Arbor, where Jocelyn joined State Sen. Sue Shink for a stop at Zingermans.

Next, Jocelyn joined Jan Maino for a stop at River and Rail Food Hub in Jackson.

The tour continued to Battle Creek, where Jocelyn attended a canvass launch with Jim Haadsma.

Jocelyn then traveled to Kalamazoo for another canvass launch and a retail visit to Bell’s Brewery with state Sen. Sean McCann.

“We’re sending a message about the Bill Huizenga and John James tax,” said State Senator Sean McCann. “Our opponents have been in Congress voting to do things like take people’s health care away, support Donald Trump’s tariffs, and especially support these high gas prices at the pump that are causing everyone’s costs to go up. We’ve got to keep doing the good things we’ve done in the state of Michigan to put money back in people’s pockets and reverse some of these things in Washington, D.C.”

The tour wrapped up day one in Grand Rapids, with an event alongside state Rep. Carol Glanville.

“In 2022, we flipped all the seats we needed to for the state House, moving into our first trifecta in 40 years, where we got so many great things done for the state of Michigan,” said State Rep. Carol Glanville. “Biggest tax cut in history. Expanded Working Families Tax Credit. Breakfast and lunch for kids. And that is the work that we are going to continue to do when I am elected to the state Senate on November 3rd, and when Jocelyn Benson and Winnie Brinks are elected to the governor’s office.”
