PRESS RELEASE

In Grand Rapids, Benson Launches “Seniors for Benson” Coalition in Her Fight for a More Affordable Michigan

Benson on WOOD TV: “We have to invest in people but we also have to hold accountable those who are driving up costs.”

Yesterday, Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson launched the “Seniors for Benson” Coalition during a roundtable with Michigan seniors and elected leaders in Grand Rapids. Benson is campaigning to lower costs, and make Michigan the best place to build a life, retire, and call home.

“I've talked to far too many seniors living on a fixed income who have to decide between whether to eat or pay for medicine, and that is unacceptable. The fundamental job of the next governor of Michigan is going to be to fix that — and I know how to fix broken systems,” said Secretary Benson during the roundtable. “As the Governor of Michigan, I won't work for the highest bidder, I won't work for lobbyists, I won't work for Donald Trump, I'll work for you, every single one of you, I will show every single day as governor making sure that we're chipping away at an unjust, broken system. Together, we're going to change that. We're going to fix that right here in Michigan, and show the nation what we stand for, what our government stands for, and it’s a government that shows up when we need it and gets out of the way when we don’t.”

“It was clear from today’s roundtable that we have to invest in the people of Michigan,” said State Representative Kristian Grant. “For me, knowing what a strong partner we need in a governor, knowing how whoever is sitting in that seat, what they believe in, what they fight for, is really going to guide the pathway forward and is critical to delivering for our seniors.”

Seniors for Benson is a statewide effort elevating the voices of Michigan seniors and Jocelyn’s commitment to make Michigan the best place to build a life, retire with dignity, and thrive. As Jocelyn campaigns, she has rolled out a comprehensive affordability agenda to lower the cost of everything from healthcare to housing to energy. Jocelyn believes we have a responsibility to do right by our seniors — ensuring you can retire with dignity, afford your medications, and still have the freedom to travel or spend time with loved ones.
