Northern Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters Endorses Jocelyn Benson for Governor
Today, the Northern Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters endorsed Jocelyn Benson as the next Governor of Michigan. The group, which represents over 14,000 carpenters, floorlayers, and millwrights across the state, praised Jocelyn’s ironclad commitment to protecting workers’ rights, her track record of making government work for the people, and her plan to lower costs and raise wages.
“Many working people in Michigan are doing everything right and still falling behind, and too many politicians are looking the other way,” said Tom Lutz, Executive Secretary Treasurer, Northern Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters. “The Northern Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters refuse to look the other way, and neither will Jocelyn Benson. We've watched Jocelyn fight and deliver as Secretary of State and we know whose side Jocelyn is on. As governor, she'll protect workers' fundamental right to organize, stand up to worker exploitation and corruption, and build a Michigan economy that works for every worker — not just those at the top. The Carpenters are proud to stand with her.”
“I am honored to have the support of the Northern Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters and the thousands of hard-working Michiganders they represent,” said Jocelyn Benson. “This campaign is about making sure the workers who keep our economy and our state running can afford to live, raise a family, and retire with dignity in. The support of the NMRCC is a critical part of the statewide coalition we are building to win in November and finally deliver a Michigan government and economy that puts our residents first — not corporations.”
The Northern Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters is the latest to join a growing coalition of state and local leaders, nonprofits, and advocacy organizations supporting Benson to be Michigan’s next governor including the Michigan Association of Justice, the Michigan Democratic Party’s Black Caucus, the Detroit Original Eastside Slate, EMILYs List, and End Citizen United, among others.
