Jocelyn Benson for Governor

PRESS RELEASE

WATCH: Winnie Brinks Says Benson-Brinks Ticket Will “Put Michiganders First”

In an interview with ABC12 News, Senate Majority Leader and Democratic Nominee for Lieutenant Governor Winnie Brinks highlighted the question facing voters this November: who do you want the next governor to work for: you or Donald Trump?

Jocelyn Benson and Winnie Brinks are the only ticket in this race that is accountable to the people, and committed to working every day to deliver for Michiganders. While Jocelyn has rolled out a comprehensive plan to lower costs and raise wages, John James has spent his time in Congress lining his own pockets, and rubber-stamping Trump’s price-hiking agenda.

Key point: “‘I hope that they see as we campaign throughout the state as a Benson-Brinks ticket for governor and lieutenant governor that we will put the needs of Michiganders first,’ Brinks said.”

Michigan Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks is campaigning across Mid-Michigan as the running mate for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson.

"I hope that they see as we campaign throughout the state as a Benson-Brinks ticket for governor and lieutenant governor that we will put the needs of Michiganders first," Brinks said.

Brinks represents the 29th Senate District and is the first woman to serve as senate majority leader in Michigan. She said her legislative experience will complement Benson's executive background.

"Jocelyn Benson has extensive experience running the Secretary of State's office. She's taken that from an office that most people did not like to visit, to a model of efficiency," Brinks said. "And I will help bring the legislative side of the governor's office to the table to make sure that we can really get things done for the people of Michigan."

She said the Benson-Brinks ticket is focusing on lowering costs in healthcare, energy and childcare, as well as creating more jobs. She said clean and affordable drinking water is also a priority—one that’s shared by many Flint residents.

"We really have a lot of work to do in Michigan," Brinks said. "We've done a lot, as we've seen. The lead pipes have been replaced here in Flint."

Brinks met with Genesee County Democrats on Sunday as part of her Mid-Michigan campaign trail.

"I really look forward to working with local leaders to see what we can do to really be a helping hand for the communities of Mid-Michigan," she said.
