PRESS RELEASE

West Michigan Stagehands Union (IATSE 26) Endorses Jocelyn Benson for Governor

Today, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 26, the West Michigan Stagehands Union, endorsed Jocelyn Benson as the next Governor of Michigan. IATSE Local 26 praised Benson’s track record of standing up to anyone, including the President, to deliver for Michiganders and her laser focus on lowering costs and raising wages.

“After Republicans attacked our industry and eliminated film jobs in 2015 and Trump’s repeated attacks on unions, we need a governor who will stand up to anyone, including the President, to deliver for Michiganders. Secretary Benson has a proven record of defending our workers and our state, and is exactly the type of leadership we need today,” said Tom Burke, President of IATSE Local 26. “She’ll be a governor who gives workers a real seat at the table, fights to bring back film industry jobs, and lowers costs across the state. We are proud to endorse her as the next Governor of Michigan and look forward to working with her to raise wages and stand up for workers.”

“I’m honored to have the support of IATSE Local 26 and their hundreds of workers in West Michigan,” said Jocelyn Benson. “This campaign is about standing up for Michiganders who power our state’s economy and making sure they can afford to live in Michigan and thrive. Where they have access to high-paying jobs, can afford to raise a family, buy a home, and retire with dignity. And where they always have a seat at the table in a Benson administration.”

IATSE Local 26 is the latest to join a growing coalition of state and local leaders, nonprofits, and advocacy organizations supporting Benson to be our next governor. They join the board coalition of mayors, city leaders, educators, and labor organizations in recognizing Benson’s track record of delivering for Michiganders and standing up to anyone who threatens our safety, rights, and freedom and leadership make her the best candidate for governor. She also has the support of state and national organizations including the Michigan Association of Justice, Michigan Democratic Party’s Black Caucus, EMILYs List, and End Citizen United, among others.
