PRESS RELEASE

Jocelyn Benson Submits Maximum of 30,000 Signatures to Qualify for the Ballot

Today, Jocelyn Benson submitted 30,000 petition signatures, more than double the amount required, to earn her place on the ballot. With support from every corner of Michigan, Jocelyn is building a powerful coalition to win in November.

Jocelyn gathered with dozens of Michiganders in Lansing to share this occasion with the volunteers, supporters, and community leaders that made this happen. After over a year on the campaign trail, Jocelyn is building a strong, people-powered coalition across the state to win in November just as she has done in her past two statewide victories. While the rest of the gubernatorial field is focused on appealing to Trump and his MAGA donors, today’s submission further underscores the momentum and enthusiasm statewide behind Jocelyn and her plan to lower costs for families across the state.

Video of Jocelyn’s remarks is available here.

Transcript of Jocelyn’s remarks:

Hi guys! Look at this. These represent the signatures of over 30,000 Michiganders, more than we need–twice as much as what's needed to qualify for the ballot. I'm feeling pretty good about that. How are you guys feeling about that?

And what's so exciting here is that every signature represents hope, every signature represents a call to action for all of us to do better, right? To show up for Michiganders all across the state, in every single one of our 83 counties, and ensure we're driving down those skyrocketing costs, protecting our water, protecting our environment, increasing access to well paying jobs, and being ready to stand up to anyone, anytime, anywhere, who would try to interfere with our rights, our freedoms, or our democracy. You ready? We're doing it for them. We're doing it for all of you. We're doing it for every Michigander.

I'm so thrilled to have the support of all of you, unions, leaders, Michiganders, all across the state. That's what it's going to take to win in November, and win we will. Let's get that trifecta back and get to work!

Additional background:

Jocelyn has rolled out an affordability agenda directly informed by her conversations across the state to tackle the rising costs that are crushing Michigan families. In January, she rolled out her healthcare plan to lower bills and improve outcomes. Jocelyn then rolled out her housing agenda in March to ensure Michiganders can afford a home where they live and work. Finally, she rolled out her energy affordability plan to stop the unfair rate hikes and tackle Michigan’s record-high utility bills.

Jocelyn is building a powerful statewide campaign powered by hundreds of volunteers, tens of thousands of individual contributions from every single county across the state, and a broad coalition of former governors, mayors, city leaders, educators, and labor organizations who recognize Benson’s track record of delivering for Michiganders and making government work for the people who need it. She also has the support of state and national organizations including the Michigan Association of Justice, Michigan Democratic Party’s Black Caucus, EMILYs List, and End Citizen United, among others.
