MANISTEE NEWS: “Benson’s [Healthcare Affordability] plan offers hope”

West Michigan Resident: “Jocelyn’s got real solutions.”

Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson is the only candidate for governor with a plan to lower healthcare costs and voters are taking notice. It’s clear that Benson’s plan is resonating with voters, especially as other candidates continue to support higher healthcare costs and massive cuts to Medicaid. Meanwhile, Benson has been traveling the state, listening to Michiganders’ stories and sharing her healthcare affordability plan.

Benson’s plan will drive down the cost of premiums and prescription drugs, eliminate surprise billing, expand access to care across the state, especially in rural and underserved areas, and grow our healthcare workforce to meet demand across the state.

Manistee News: Lampinen: Rural west Michigan faces health care gaps; Benson's plan offers hope

[Eric Lampinen, 3/8/2026]

Where we live, we have to travel an hour to get to many specialist doctor’s offices and services. Working families need to take time from work, find someone to watch kids, and spend more on gas just to get to a health care provider.

Like too many families in west Michigan, we live in a near healthcare desert with greatly reduced services at local hospitals and only two birthing centers between Muskegon and Benzie county.

[...]

I’m grateful to see Jocelyn Benson roll out a plan that tackles these things. No one else has, even though it’s one of our most important issues right now.

[...]

Jocelyn has had practice overhauling our Secretary of State infrastructure and making it work for everyone. We need that experience to revamp our healthcare system.

From bringing mobile health centers to rural communities, to incentivizing medical professionals to build their life in high-need communities, Jocelyn’s got real solutions.

I know that as governor, Benson will deliver and make our healthcare system work. That’s why I’m voting for her come November.
