PRESS RELEASE

IT’S OFFICIAL: Winnie Brinks Becomes Democratic Nominee for Lieutenant Governor with Resounding Support

Today, Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks officially became the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Michigan, joining Secretary of State and Democratic nominee for Governor Jocelyn Benson at the top of the ticket. Michigan Democrats from across the state rallied around her today at the party’s convention in Lansing.

Since her candidacy was announced last week, Brinks has been met with widespread support from elected officials, labor unions, nonprofits, and communities across the state. Known for her reputation as a changemaker, accomplished legislator, and the first woman to lead the Michigan Senate, she is the best partner to help Jocelyn bring down costs, grow the economy, and make Michigan the best place in the nation to live and work.

“I am so honored and proud to accept your nomination to be the next Lieutenant Governor of Michigan,” said Winnie Brinks. “As I accept your nomination for Lieutenant Governor of Michigan, I pledge to work every day to lower costs, to raise wages, and make Michigan a place where everyone can live and thrive. Jocelyn Benson is the leader we need to make that vision of a more affordable Michigan a reality. But before we can make government work for everyone, we need to beat John James.”

“Winnie has spent her career fighting for the people of Michigan — fighting for the working families of Michigan — and I cannot be happier that we have someone who is Grand Rapids' favorite daughter on the ticket with us. From Grand Rapids to Detroit, from the U.P. to Monroe, we are building a campaign, and a ticket, that looks like this whole state,” said Jocelyn Benson. “We as Democrats are here to fight. We are here to win for every single person in Michigan because that's who we are."
