Detroit Original Eastside Slate Endorses Jocelyn Benson for Governor

Detroit Metro Times: “Benson lands influential Detroit endorsement in battle for Black voters”

Today, the Detroit Original Eastside Slate endorsed Jocelyn Benson for governor of Michigan. The Eastside Slate has long advocated for the residents of Detroit and fought to ensure their voices are heard at all levels of government. They are committed to elected leaders who will deliver on economic equality and invest in all Detroiters.

“The Original Eastside Slate is endorsing Jocelyn Benson because she shows up and gets things done for our city. Jocelyn is not only a proven leader – she’s a Detroiter who understands what our communities are up against,” said Original Eastside Slate Vice Chair Carol Banks. “Right now, sky-high property taxes and rising costs are pushing Detroiters out of their own communities. We need a governor who won’t just make promises, but will actually deliver for everyone, not just the people who live Downtown. As Secretary of State, Jocelyn has shown up and delivered for the Eastside. We look forward to working with her to bring investment and opportunity back to our neighborhoods. It is time for a blue wave in Michigan, now more than ever!”

“It means so much to have the support of the powerful Eastside slate as we build a people-powered campaign to win across Michigan - and throughout Detroit,” said Jocelyn Benson. “As a Detroit resident, I see every day the skyrocketing costs that force so many families to choose whether to buy groceries or cover their electricity bill, as the price of housing, health care, food, and just about everything else is through the roof. As governor, I will lower those costs and increase wages by taking on corruption and making sure government shows up when you need it and makes your life easier."

Eastside Slate joins a coalition of Detroit leaders and organizations supporting Jocelyn Benson including: Councilwoman Gabriela Santiago Romero, Former Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence, State Rep. Tonya Myers-Phillips, Rev. Horace Sheffield, Mothering Justice Founder Danielle Atkinson, Detroit actor and former Senate candidate Hill Harper, and former City Council President Saunteel Jenkins.

Jocelyn has received endorsements from a broad coalition of mayors, city leaders, educators, and labor organizations who recognize Benson’s track record of delivering for Michiganders and making government work for the people who need it. You can find a full list of endorsements, here.
