PRESS RELEASE

Jocelyn Benson Statement on John James Voting Against Ending the Iran War and Lowering Costs for Michiganders

Last night, Congressman John James voted against a resolution to end Donald Trump’s disastrous and costly War in Iran. Secretary of State and Democratic Nominee for Governor Jocelyn Benson released the following statement in response:

“John James had one job: stand up for Michiganders. He blew it. Again.

“Parents are struggling to fill up their tanks. Truckers can’t afford diesel. Small businesses are paying more to get their goods where they need to go. And John James had a chance to vote for the end of a war in Iran that is costing Michiganders more than $4 a gallon for gas and $7 a gallon for diesel. Instead he chose to side with Donald Trump. All while knowing full well that Michiganders are bearing the brunt of both of Trump’s costly wars – both in the Middle East, and in our own backyard with Canada, as the John James Tax hurts our state.

“This failed leadership is what happens when politicians put serving Donald Trump ahead of serving the people who elected them. We all deserve better.

“Michigan needs leaders who won’t wait for Washington to get its act together to do the right thing. As governor, I’ll work with anyone to lower costs for Michiganders, and I’ll stand up to anyone who gets in the way.”
