Jocelyn Benson WINS First Gubernatorial Debate on WOOD-TV

Jocelyn Benson took the debate stage at WOOD-TV tonight and made her case directly to Michigan families: she'll lower costs, raise wages, and protect the rights and freedoms they were born with.

Following the debate, Benson for Michigan Campaign Manager Nikki Goldschein released the following statement:

"Tonight, Michigan got a clear side-by-side look at the two people who want to be Governor — and the choice could not be clearer.

"Jocelyn Benson came prepared with a vision for how we make Michigan more affordable and make government work for people again: bringing down healthcare costs, building more housing, lowering energy costs, making sure every kid has a real shot at success, and making sure a good job in Michigan can support a good life. And she made clear that when our rights and freedoms are on the line, she will stand up and fight — no matter who she has to take on.

"John James had a very different night. When asked to answer for his record, including the votes behind the 'John James Tax' that has cost Michigan families $6,400 since 2025, he couldn't defend them. When asked about his four votes to block local control, he couldn't explain them. And he wouldn't break with the Trump agenda that's making life more expensive for Michigan families.

"That's the choice in this race: Jocelyn Benson will work for you. John James will keep working for Trump.

"Jocelyn has won statewide twice because she shows up, tells the truth, and fights for the people of Michigan. She did exactly that tonight, and we'll keep taking that fight to every corner of this state through November 3."
