Jocelyn Benson Hosts Roundtable Discussion, Rallies with Democrats alongside Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear

Today, on the first day of the general election, Secretary of State and Democratic Nominee for Governor Jocelyn Benson was joined by Democratic Governors Association (DGA) Chair and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear for events across Metro Detroit. As Democrats across the state rally behind Jocelyn’s candidacy, Governor Beshear is the latest national leader to endorse Team Benson and join her broad coalition of Michigan leaders, labor organizations, and advocacy groups that are ready to send Jocelyn to the governor’s seat.

“I am proud to be here the day after the primary, as the head of the Democratic Governors Association, to say we are all in on Jocelyn Benson. We commit to doing everything that it takes, along with you all today doing everything it takes, to make sure that we win this election because it's critical,” said Democratic Governors Association (DGA) Chair and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear. “Winning 85 plus percent just proves that she is in a unique position – at a time where it seems like there's so much division in this country, at a time where it seems like some have lost hope – to bring people together.” 

“We saw yesterday, and we're going to see in these months ahead, the eyes of the nation are on Michigan. The eyes of the nation are on us to ensure that we show up and demonstrate who we are as Democrats,” said Jocelyn Benson. “We’re the party of Medicaid, the party of Medicare, the party of Social Security, of the Voting Rights Act, the Civil Rights Act, and the Fair Housing Act. We’re the party that gets things done, the party that sees problems and tries to solve them, and we see the struggles that Michiganders are feeling today. It's on us to solve them and fight for those folks who need that voice.” 

First, Jocelyn and Gov. Beshear held a roundtable discussion at Good Cakes and Bakes, a small business in Detroit. Together, they met with local leaders and Michiganders to discuss Jocelyn’s plans to make Michigan the best place to start a small business, lower costs, and outline the stakes of this election. 

After the roundtable, they traveled to Southfield for a Meet & Greet in Oakland County, and rallied with Oakland County Democratic volunteers.
