Jocelyn Benson Shares Her Vision for Michigan, Slams James’ Failed Economic Record at Detroit Economic Club

Today, Secretary of State and Democratic nominee for Governor Jocelyn Benson joined the Detroit Economic Club to share her vision of Michigan as the economic engine of the Midwest, and the best place in the nation to live, work, and raise a family. Covering topics from data centers, to healthcare, to education, Jocelyn shared her plans to bring down costs, diversify our economy, and protect communities.

On every issue, Jocelyn is the candidate putting people over profits. She has called for a moratorium on data centers until we can pass strict, enforceable guardrails that keep our electric bills from rising, protect our Great Lakes, and ensure local communities have a seat at the table. On healthcare, she will streamline the state health department, and stand up to Big Pharma and insurance companies to stop price gouging on Michiganders. And Jocelyn will adopt an equitable funding model for schools that ensures every student has access to quality education, and invests in the future talent that will lead Michigan’s future.

Meanwhile, her opponent, John James, has been a yes-man in Congress for Trump’s failed economic policies. John James bent the knee to data center companies and voted against local control for data center projects, voted to raise healthcare costs on Michiganders at least three times, and he has failed to act in Congress to end Trump’s reckless trade war with Canada and war in Iran. While the Trump-James agenda has cost Michiganders an additional $5,619 over the past year, Jocelyn is focused on bringing down costs and investing in Michigan’s future.

“In contrast to my opponent — who has supported every failed economic policy that the current President has promoted, and has denied election results as I’ve defended them — we need a leader in this moment who will speak the truth, bring people together, and get stuff done,” said Jocelyn Benson. “I’ve done that as Secretary of State.
