PRESS RELEASE

GIFFORDS PAC Endorses Jocelyn Benson for Governor

Today, GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, endorsed Jocelyn Benson in the race for Governor.

“As Secretary of State, Jocelyn Benson has fought to protect Michigan from armed political violence, and led on public safety. As governor, she will build on our historic progress in Michigan to save lives from gun violence and safeguard the futures of children and families across the Great Lakes State. Jocelyn Benson is the leader we need in Lansing in this critical moment. We are proud to endorse her today and look forward to helping her win in November,” said Congresswoman Giffords.

“As a mom of a 9 year old boy, I know how important it is to keep our kids and communities safe from gun violence.  That’s why I am so proud to have GIFFORDS PAC’s support and endorsement as I seek to serve as the next governor of Michigan. As Secretary of State I’ve worked to keep guns away from the ballot box, and have stood up to political violence - whether on my own front lawn, our state capitol building, or anywhere else in our state.  I’ll continue to prioritize this work as governor, working with anyone willing to get things done to keep all Michiganders safe and secure,” said Jocelyn Benson.

GIFFORDS PAC is the latest to join a growing coalition of state and local leaders, nonprofits, and advocacy organizations that recognize Benson is the only candidate in the race with a proven track record of standing up to anyone – no matter how wealthy or powerful – who threatens our safety, our rights, and our freedoms. They join a broad coalition of mayors, city leaders, educators, and labor organizations in supporting the strongest campaign to win in November. She also has the support of state and national organizations including the Michigan Association of Justice, Michigan Democratic Party’s Black Caucus, EMILYs List, and End Citizen United, among others.
