Jocelyn Benson for Governor

PRESS RELEASE

Gov. Whitmer, Gov. Walz Rally With Jocelyn Benson at Annual Michigan State University Homecoming Tailgate

Yesterday, Secretary of State and Democratic nominee for Governor Jocelyn Benson, Senate Majority Leader and Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor Winnie Brinks, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz joined Governor Gretchen Whitmer at her annual MSU homecoming tailgate.

From small businesses to farms to tailgates, Jocelyn has been traveling the state to meet voters where they are, and share her plans to drive down costs, raise wages, and protect the rights and safety of all Michiganders. Governor Whitmer and Governor Walz know what it means to lead, and they know Jocelyn is the only candidate in this race who works for the people and has the moral courage to stand up to anyone — no matter how wealthy or powerful — to protect Michiganders.

“The one thing that people in Michigan know, people in Minnesota, what the upper Midwest knows, we know how to be good neighbors. We know how to stand up for people who need us to stand up. We know how to stand up to bullies. And we know the things that make life a little better for people. That's what you've done in Michigan. And this is no small thing, that incredible work, and I've witnessed this happening, can be turned back if we don't win this election,” said Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. “So, Secretary Benson and Leader Brinks, to be able to pass the torch and let them continue to move forward, you cannot imagine how big a deal that is. And I have to tell you, in this country right now, all eyes are on Michigan.”

“This is an opportunity to make sure that the work continues. That the work we've done isn't in vain, or gets undone by the next administration, but gets built upon. I am proud of what we've done together, and I know what is at stake in this election,” said Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. “No one is more prepared to lead our state in the next four years than Jocelyn Benson. She has been an incredible Secretary of State. She has been a great partner to the work that we have done.”

“Our campaign is about three things: costs down, wages up, and ending the corruption that got us here. Standing up for democracy, standing up for the people, and making sure Michigan's the best place in the nation to call home. And for me, that means the choice in this race is simple: who will the next governor of Michigan work for: the people or the powerful? Well, as governor, you know I will work for you,” said Jocelyn Benson. “And we know my opponent. You saw this on the debate stage this week: he's only going to fight for himself. In just four years in Congress, you know what he's done? He's become a multi-millionaire buying stocks in the companies that he regulates, and then he turns around and cuts their taxes, while raising our healthcare costs, supporting tariffs that are driving up costs on everyone in Michigan, and backing a war in Iran that is increasing our gas prices every day. That's not the type of leadership that Michigan needs.”
