PRESS RELEASE

Jocelyn Benson Joins Gabby Giffords and Christina Hines for Community Conversation on Public Safety in Macomb County

Today, Secretary of State and Democratic nominee for Governor Jocelyn Benson joined former U.S. Representative Gabby Giffords and Democratic nominee for Michigan’s 10th Congressional District Christina Hines in Clinton Township for a community conversation on safety and affordability.

“As Secretary of State, Jocelyn Benson has led on public safety and fought to protect Michiganders from armed political violence. As governor, she will build on that momentum and fight to save lives from gun violence while protecting Michigan children and creating safer communities across the state,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “We need to work together to make Jocelyn Benson Michigan’s next governor, and to elect gun safety champions like her and Christina Hines up and down the ballot in November.”

“As a former prosecutor, I know how important public safety is for Michigan communities. We need proactive and courageous leaders at the helm to prevent violence before it happens, and hold those who commit crimes accountable,” said Democratic nominee for Michigan’s 10th Congressional District Christina Hines. “Keeping Michiganders safe will be my priority in Congress, and I know we can trust Jocelyn to have the same focus in Lansing. Thank you to former Representative Giffords for joining us as we rally behind the commonsense public safety solutions our communities are counting on us to deliver.”

“For me, the priority must be costs down, wages up, and keeping Michiganders safe in schools, in places of work, in places of worship, at the ballot box, and everywhere in between,” said Jocelyn Benson. “I will be unafraid to stand up to anyone, anytime, anywhere who would stand in the way of our citizens and their safety. That is the job of the governor. That is what it means to have leaders who fight for you – not the highest bidder, not special interests, not corporations, not Donald Trump, for the people of Michigan.”
