STATEMENT: Jocelyn Benson on Supreme Court Reviewing Republican’s Undemocratic Decision to Stall 9 Bills
Following today’s hearing at the Michigan Supreme Court on nine Republican-stalled bills in the state legislature, gubernatorial candidate and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson released the below statement:
“Refusing to send these pro-worker bills to the Governor’s desk is blatantly undemocratic, illegal, and will also drastically raise healthcare costs on Michiganders while endangering our public servants’ hard-earned pensions. These bills have already been debated and passed – and would deliver real relief for Michigan families. It’s time for the Speaker to put the will of Michiganders before his partisan agenda.
“I applaud Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks and the Democratic Caucus for fighting to deliver for their constituents and to put workers first. As governor, I will never hesitate to stand up for the hardworking people that keep this state running, protect the right to collectively bargain, and ensure our workers are paid fairly and treated with respect.”
