Jocelyn Benson for Governor

PRESS RELEASE

Jocelyn Benson Becomes First Democratic Candidate for Governor to Ever Earn Michigan Corn Growers Endorsement

Today, Secretary of State and Democratic nominee for Governor Jocelyn Benson earned the endorsement of Corn Growers of Michigan PAC and Michigan Corn Growers Association — making her the first Democratic candidate for governor to ever earn their endorsement. Jocelyn has a record of fighting for farmers and Michigan’s corn growers know she’ll continue that fight in the governor’s seat.

As Secretary of State, Jocelyn stood up for Michigan farmers when she classified farming as an essential industry: allowing them to continue working and renew their food and pesticide licenses during the pandemic. Now she’s fighting to bring down their costs and expand agricultural innovation so they can work more efficiently. Meanwhile, John James has voted six times to continue Trump’s War in Iran, even though diesel prices have hit record highs and Michigan farmers are struggling to keep up. It’s clear that Jocelyn is the only candidate in this race that will work for Michigan’s farmers — not Donald Trump.

“Secretary Benson understands our growers are facing difficult times and need new and expanding markets. She understands that higher costs are a major challenge on our farms today. She has committed to making agencies easier to work with, and continuing to invest in agricultural research with partners like Michigan State University,” said Chair of Corn Growers of Michigan PAC, Scott Lonier. “On behalf of the Michigan Corn PAC Board and the members of the Michigan Corn Growers Association, I'm proud to announce our endorsement for Jocelyn Benson for Governor of Michigan. Secretary Benson, thank you for your willingness to work on behalf of the Michigan corn growers. We are glad to have you in the fight with us.”

“I know how so many of our farmers face a lot of very significant challenges in this economy. Fertilizer prices are up 30 to 40 percent; uncertainty about next season or next planting cycle is omnipresent; and on top of all of that, as we heard, you can get buried in red tape. These are real problems, and anyone who wants to lead this state needs to know those issues, have a commitment to solving them, and pay attention to the voices who are calling out to be heard. So, as governor, my commitment will be to make sure farmers always have a seat at the table in my administration,” said Jocelyn Benson. “I'm really proud to have earned the endorsement of the Michigan Corn Growers Association, and I'm committed to working with every farmer here to get things done for our state. Because I know when we invest in our farmers, our economy grows, we create more well-paying jobs and make our entire state more sustainable. We help more people stay and thrive, right here in Michigan, and I will be proud to stand with our farming families to get it done.”
